What Is Blockheads?

Blockheads is a free block-of-the-week sew along from Moda Fabrics, created with our amazing community and designer friends in mind. It’s a choose-your-own-adventure quilting experience. Every Wednesday, Moda will release a free block pattern along with helpful cutting instructions, weekly video tutorials, and plenty of inspiration to make the block your own.

Your favorite Moda designers – Robin Pickens, Debbie Maddy, and Camille Roskelley to name a few - are creating these patterns just for you. There are 25 blocks in all ranging from 9 inches to 20 inches.

It’s not a traditional mystery quilt where we all end up with the same final layout. Instead, it’s a flexible, skill-building series where YOU decide how to put your blocks together. Turn them into one quilt, a set of smaller projects, or something totally unique. No rules here—just creativity!

Great for every level of quilter, this is a chance to explore different styles and techniques, stretch your creativity, and sew at your own pace—all while connecting with a vibrant community of quilters. Whether you're a seasoned pro or just getting started, Blockheads is all about learning, experimenting, and having fun. Be sure to join the Moda Blockheads Facebook Group for weekly videos. When does it start?

 The first BH6 block was released on May 28, you can download it here.

 New blocks will be released each Wednesday by 8:00 AM Central through Nov. 12.

 Where can I download the patterns?

Moda will publish the pattern PDFs in two places: The Moda blog and the Moda Blockheads Facebook group. Quilt Patch will also provide a link to the Moda Blockheads instruction page in our newsletter each week.
